Neutron guide systems at reactor-based neutron sources
CG2B neutron guide system - ANSTO (2017)
The Australian Nuclear Science and Technology Organization (ANSTO) extended the neutron guide CG2B into the neutron guide hall in order to deliver neutrons to the time-of-flight reflectometer SPATZ and eventually to two additional instruments, which will be defined at later stage. The preceding neutron guide was already delivered and installed by SwissNeutronics in 2012. SwissNeutronics was awarded the contract for the guide extension based on the same technical concept comprising neutron guides made from Borkron glass and vacuum casings.
Scope of delivery out of pile: neutron guides with vacuumcasing and mechanical supports CG2b
Type: curved neutron guides with vacuum casings Path/profile: curved vertical / parallel straight / parallel Cross-sections: 30 mm x 160 mm / 30 mm x 50 mm Length: ≈ 31.5 m Coatings: Ni/Ti, m=1 / 2 / 2.5 / 3 Substrates: S-BSL7 (Borkron)
CG2a/b neutron guide system - BRAGG @ ANSTO (2012)
The scope of the project was to add two more guides to the cold neutron guide system in order to provide neutrons to several new instruments in the neutron guide hall. For this purpose, the complete in-pile assembly was replaced including guides, plugs, cassettes, etc. The new CG2 guide branches into two sub-beams CG2A and CG2B. SwissNeutronics engineered, designed, fabricated, tested and installed all the equipment.

Customer feedback (10-Feb-2013):
As you know, the CG2 guide installation is now complete and I just wanted to let you know that ANSTO is 100% happy with how the installation was carried out by Dominik and Alexander. It was really impressive to see the laser tracker based installation work! Both Dominik and Alexander showed great dedication to their work. It is a great pleasure to work with this kind of people! Thanks also to the other staff at SwissNeutronics who contributed to the CG2 Project!
Neutron guide system - NL1-3 @ HZB (2010)
In 2009 SwissNeutronics was awarded the contract the major part of neutron guides for the refurbishment of the HZB NL1-3 guide system comprising in-pile, primary shutter and out-of-pile neutron guides. After an extensive design phase, in which SwissNeutronics took the leadership for management of interfaces, conceptual and final designs, guides were manufactured from float glass, Borkron glass and Borofloat glass dependent on the distance from the moderator. The guides designated for beam transport were mainly coated with m=3 supermirror, but focusing section with elliptic, truly curved profile utilize supermirror up to m=5. Finally all guides were installed. In particular for the initial sections (in-pile, etc.) a close collaboration between HZB and SwissNeutronics allowed to manage all the delicate requirements for these sections.
